This painting was inspired by a trip to the Matauri Bay area
when I painted Pink Beach although it could
be from any coastline in New Zealand. The gulls there didn't like
me tramping over their territory very much, despite my friendly
gesturing as they swooped for my head. This particular gull eyed
me cautiously but stood his ground resolutely as I moved closer
and closer with my camera. Below are the sketches which led to
the painting and also what it looks like in a frame. |
