This is a larger scale painting of "Day at the Beach" as I wanted to see how the increase would affect the perception of the painting on the wall. For a scene like this which is talking about expansiveness it's impressive how the extra size takes you further into the painting. As more of your peripheral vision is taken up with the painting you're given an enhanced sense of actually being there. I've pushed the painterly approach even further for me, sometimes painting with both hands at once to achieve a textured surface with a naturally expressive feel.

Continuing here to play with a 'high key palette' (one that has a greater predominance of light tones), combined with a more painterly approach. This started from the idea that for a painting on a wall to give the appearance of emanating light like a daylight window does, the tones need to be light enough to reflect as much ambient light as possible.
