This is a commissioned piece based on "Bream Bay Evening". As with everything I paint I've tried to improve on my previous ideas. I searched Ruakaka Beach for hours looking for a better shaped dune than the one in Bream Bay Evening, but eventually found that I'd got the best one to start with. So I sketched the dunes again, paying closer attention to the shape of the sand ripples and the flow of light across them. The colours have also been warmed and enhanced considerably as the client was asking for a piece that would 'light up the room'. Commissions are always a fine balancing act between what the client wants and what I think will work best in a painting.
