The past few friday's I've been painting with a friend and focusing on a still life in the studio of a pot and a butternut. The discipline of capturing the subtleties of light falling across a 'simple' object has inspired me to paint this portrait which could also be classed as a still life. More than that though, discussions with my friend who paints from a purely spiritual perspective have helped me solidify my goal of expressing the spiritual aspect of the visible world. Hence the name of this painting, after Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
