Matapouri rests in the heart of Tutukaka - one of my favourite strips of Northland coastline. The light pouring through the hills in the evening makes a dramatic impact on this beach with it's stoic rock outcroppings reflecting the warmth of the last rays. To enhance this lighting effect I've replaced the usual blues in the sky and shadows with a deeper gray, contrasting colour with non-colour. I've also increased the density of the atmosphere to make the background recede faster, thereby pushing the foreground objects closer.
