Time and tide have borne me here
But earth now takes my form
Far from my berth I wake to find
Such peace after the storm.
This is the same canoe as in 'Evening Light' although this painting was made from the photos I took in the morning after the storm. This is how I found it, just lying there settled into the sand with that beautifully ragged rope so stark against the hull. The little poem I wrote to go with it on the back was just an afterthought to support the text on the canvas but I like it because it speaks quietly about life and death. I had fun building the texture with a palette knife and glazing over it later to achieve that stained look. This is the second painting I've done of this same scene, but I've improved upon several aspects of it.
