Sometimes it's quite a mission getting close enough to these seagulls to get a decent photograph, especially when your'e also waiting for them to get in just the right position for the light to catch them, or a wave to come. I've got a small land yacht called a blokart which I used to get close to these seagulls. I've found that if you sit still in nature long enough you're always rewarded, so that's what I did in the blokart, except that I was creeping ever so slowly towards them with my camera at the ready. It was around Easter time so I also tried tempting them with some chocolate buttons I had on me, but they were more interested in watching this strange human on wheels pretending he was driftwood. After a couple of hours creeping and throwing chocolate buttons I was rewarded with about 2 good photos which I could work from, and the other fifty or so helped my understanding of seagulls in 3 dimensions.
NOTE: Although the original of this painting has been sold, a limited edition giclee print on canvas is now available for $650 ready to hang. Contact me for more information. |
