I've taken this boat from the Matapouri river in Tutukaka and planted it on the beach at Ruakaka. It was quite heavy, but once you get it onto your knees it's plain sailing. No, just kidding, my brushes did all the work, and despite the move the gull stayed put. I thought this boat was such a great subject to paint that it needed very little else to support it, just a suggestion of it's environment where it's waiting to be brought to life, and a seagull who's waiting on HIS boat for the offcuts of bait that'll be thrown over the side. In the distance flies another seagull who might have just tried to talk him off his throne. |
