Very occasionally an odd mix of things in my life come together at the right time to bring about a major shift in my painting. It usually comes after I've been painting the same type of work for some time. In the case of this painting I came across this bay again, (the locals call it Daisy Bay, in Tutukaka, Northland), which I have painted many times, but on this particular day I was so excited to be painting it my acrylic paints leapt into my hands and proceeded to throw themselves at the canvas. For anyone trying painting for the first time, I can really recommend splattering paint around the canvas - it makes for hours of fun. Sometimes it's the only way to get your feelings out. |
