Mangawhai is at the Southern end of Bream Bay, a 30km curve of long beaches and secluded coves. Captain Cook dropped anchor here in 1769, whereupon his crew caught so many of the fish "Bream" that Cook decided to name their anchorage "Bream Bay". |
