This stunning beach, protected by ancient Pohutukawas is a welcoming sight which draws you down the long hot walk from the hills behind. Unfortunately, when Helen and I tried to visit the beach we were stopped by the farmer who owns the land around it. An ongoing dispute with locals and council had made him deny all public access to the beaches lining his property. This was one of Helen's favorite beaches when she was a child and it was shocking to be denied the liberty of visiting it. I hope New Zealand's shoreline will be the treasured inheritance of endless generations of people who love this country.
