This is my fourth painting of this beautiful bay. Something
about it's seclusion makes it even more alluring, as there is hardly ever anyone on it due to the drive up
the hill and the steep walk down to the beach. I've paid special
attention to making the colours as vibrant as possible. The rich
blue is built up with 4 to 6 individual layers and most areas
have been overlaid with similar multiple glazes. As with varnishing
wood, where the colour is intensified with every consecutive layer
of varnish, glazes allow light to pass through the transparent
paint layer, reflecting off the white base beneath and then shining
out from within the painting, almost like a stained glass window. |
