The winner of this newsletter's painting prize is...
Merryn Jones from Invercargill, New Zealand!
Congratulations Merryn - and merry Christmas!

Mastering Color Lessons

I've finished chapter 5 of the Mastering Color course called "Mixing Color" and it's available here: www.livepaintinglessons.com/colour.php

This is the longest chapter yet and it covers a bunch of problems including which colors to buy, what's the best color mixing wheel available, palette alternatives, color charts, mixing methods, transparency & opacity, color relativity, matching color, the problem with white and black, complementary grays, some powerful painting excercises and of course all the lesson notes as well.

I've been having lots of fun doing the painting exercises while I've been creating this course - funny how the more you learn, you realise how little you know.

New Giclee Prints Available

I've had so much interest in my latest painting "King of the Castle" and "Footsteps" from my personal collection that I decided to make them available as limited edition giclee canvas prints - just in time for Christmas :-)

Tongariro Crossing

Last weekend I took the 6 hour drive down to Tongariro National Park with some friends and spent 8 hours on the most amazing hiking track which took us up and over the steaming volcanic slopes of Mount Doom (well it's actually Mt Ngaruhoe, but it is the Volcano used in Lord of the Rings and Mt Doom sounds much more exciting).

I've included some photos below - not strictly to do with painting (sorry), but very inspiring all the same. I can highly recommend the walk if you are in the neighborhood of Mordor anytime with a scary ring getting you down.

All the best for the Christmas season,
Richard
