Hi All,
the season is upon us - again! Feels like we just packed the Christmas tree away a few months ago. Nice that the kids are old enough now to want to put the decorations ON the tree rather than pulling them off all the time - now it's the cat's job.

I expect you might want to know if you won the Newsletter Painting Prize while you're here, so here it is... Drumroll please...
The winner is Claire Walkinshaw! Congratulations Claire, I hope you enjoy your new painting. Sorry to everyone else who didn't win this time, but good luck for next time, and here's a video of me doing something silly to make you smile again: Watch me soar!

The paintings have been few and far between in the past few months as I've chosen to spend my time teaching and making digital lessons which have been doing really well globally. Here are some new things for you though:

Trademe Sale!
Yes, I'm doing it again. I saw these little ones sitting around the studio and thought you might like one for Christmas.
So go and grab yourself a bargain here: View Painting Sale on Trademe >>

My New Blog - The Complete Artist.
This is for artists and art lovers who want to see what I'm up to on a more regular basis. I also intend it to be a gathering place for artists who are taking my painting and art-business lessons. You can get each new blog in your inbox if you want too, which is an easy way to keep up to date with what's on my easil etc.

It's pretty cool - have a look in the Shop.

New Prints - great prezzies!
I've taken my large canvas prints and made them smaller - shrinking the price tag at the same time. Lots of people were saying they would love to buy the big 20x60" prints but just didn't have the room to hang them, so I thought this might solve the problem. So you can now get ANY of my large prints at half the size (75cm x 24cm x 2.5cm) for $290 delivered within NZ (add $30NZD for international delivery). You can also get them on premium quality art paper (75 x 24cm) for $75 - these look fantastic too, but you need to get them framed. Just email me if you're interested in either of those options.

Other than that there are these few paintings below to show you and just to wish you a very happy Christmas and a great start to the new year.

Till then,
All the best,
Richard

"Each brushstroke is my signature, says who I am. A creative. An artist. What's my job? To pay attention to the things we're mostly too busy to see. (How the beach is reflected in the belly of a seagull, how whitewash glows, reflecting in the water ahead of it, how a wave's echo can be seen returning to the ocean, how everything reflects in every other thing...) To smell the flowers. I want every brushstroke to be a celebration of this."

A montage of images very dear to me. They include (from left) flying in over the Whangarei Heads, a Koru Fern, Sandy Bay in Tutukaka, the view over Bream Bay from the top of the Brynderwyn Range and the 3 inserts are Mt Manaia from One Tree Point, Bream Bay, and Ruakaka Beach. The poetry is my own except for the piece top left which I from a good friend.

We were lucky enough to stay in a friend's bach for a few days in the little seaside village of Omapere in the far north. When we arrived we strolled down the garden onto the beach and found these two boys playing in the stream. The lighting and composition was striking so I took a few photos and made this painting when we returned home a few days later.

Thanks for your continued interest in my art.
