Time to read this newsletter: about 5 minutes.

Hi Everyone,
hello to all the latest newsletter registrants and a big thankyou to all of you who've continued to show interest in my art. This newsletter's random prize draw goes to Bruce & Denise Ireland! Congratulations you guys. Sorry if you haven't won this time around, but to increase your chances of winning next time, click here to find out more about the new prize points system.

PRIZE POINTS
Basically, the more friends you can entice to register for my newsletter, the better your chances are of winning the newsletter prize. For example, just one friend registering will earn you one point and double your chances. If that friend then gets one of their friends to register you will get another point. Following that, if you get over 5 points, I'll send you a free DVD worth $25!  Sorry, no free set of steak knives though, and no Amway products. However, if you get over 10 points I will send you a voucher for 33% off any artwork purchased through my gallery. Right now you're in a great position to increase your chance of winning considerably because this is the very beginning of this points system, where everyone starts out with just one point. 3 months from now it'll be very interesting to see who has the most points and who wins the prize.

PARUA BAY EXHIBITION
Anyway, putting the shameless self promotion aside, the last few months painting have been very interesting. Something new has started to emerge in my work after the successful Dune Light exhibition at Helena Bay Gallery. I'm calling this work my 'Ascension Series - Coastal Dreamings', to be exhibited at Parua Bay Gallery on the 20th of October. Although I'm well known for painting the Northland coastline these paintings are a step away into the realm of my dreams which have from a young age often been about flying above landscapes such as these. On the 20th of October I'll be at the Parua Bay exhibition for the whole day meeting people and painting a picture which will be raffled off at $5 per ticket over the 3 weeks of the exhibition. I'd love to see you there - there will be free drinks and nibbles too!

CHRISTHCHURCH EXHIBITION
Right now I'm working on some paintings for a solo exhibition at Jones Herlihy Fine Arts Gallery in Christchurch, opening on the 10th of November. See the last image below for a sneak preview of what's to come there.

PAINTING AUCTIONS
I'm auctioning off some of my old paintings which have been hanging around the studio for too long. Have a look on trademe here.

Thanks for your continued interest in my art, and good luck with the next newsletter prize!

The Haiku styled poetry accompanying this painting grew from a realisation that my themes and treatments were echoes of the traditional silk landscape painting of the Orient (which I've always greatly admired) and lent itself to a form of Haiga, a painting containing complimentary haiku poetry and imagery.

I Dream of Flying
09 2007
Oil on Canvas
76 x 76cm
$3500
SOLD

Most of the drawings are taken from the sketchbooks of Leonardo da Vinci.

"I dream of flying. The power to fly resides in the mind - a learned skill which often begins as a newly discovered telekinetic ability. There is a very specific way of thinking which enables flight. To lose the thread of that thought in mid flight can be disastrous. The power can be lent to others by touch, but breaking contact will remove the power.

...arms aching, for the want of wings... "

Ruakaka beach, influenced by the style of Australian artist Ken Knight. This is my entry into this year's Yellow Pages art award for Northland. This year they've got online voting for a people's choice award. If you'd like to help me win go to: http://www.ypgartawards.co.nz/vote/  and look in the Northland section for this painting.

Sumner Beach III
10 2007
Oil on Canvas
30 x 90cm
We recently had a holiday in Christchurch and I took the opportunity on our first morning there to get up with the sun and go exploring the beachfront and hills. My goal is to create a series of similarly themed paintings for an exhibition in Christchurch at the Jones Herlihy Fine Art Gallery on the 10th of November.

Thanks for your continued interest in my art.
