Hi Everyone,
I hope you've all been well. It's been 4 months since my last newsletter which I think have been the busiest 4 months of my painting career. I've booked myself into no less than 8 exhibitions this year and have been painting my arm off in order to keep up. Meanwhile I've redesigned this website, as you can see, and created a DVD containing the last 3 years paintings and demonstration videos of me painting. Click here for more information about the DVD.

At 10am Saturday 11th August I'll be at the Helena Bay Hill Gallery promoting the launch of my latest exhibition "Dune Light". While I'm there I'll be working on a painting which will be raffled off at the end of the exhibition - tickets sold over that period. As a bonus I've decided to make this newsletter's Prize a sort of reward for participation rather than a random selection. To win an original painting you must firstly be registered for my newsletter. If you have already registered please don't register again. Secondly, click on the golden ticket on the right and print out the large version of it and be the first person to present it to me at the Dune Light Exhibition on 11th August. There are also prizes for not being first, as you'll see on the ticket. Click here for a printable map to find The Gallery Helena Bay Hill.

I hope you enjoy these latest paintings..

Day at the Beach
05 2007
Oil on Canvas
76 x 76cm
$3500
Continuing here to play with a 'high key palette' (one that has a greater predominance of light tones), combined with a more painterly approach. This started from the idea that for a painting on a wall to give the appearance of emanating light like a daylight window does, the tones need to be light enough to reflect as much ambient light as possible.

Dune Light
06 2007
Oil on Canvas
76 x 76cm
$4000

This painting is a step away from my usual desire to portray direct sunlight effects. I had gone on the beach with the hope of capturing some dune grasses set alight with the last rays of the sun but I arrived only a few minutes too late as the sun ducked behind some clouds low on the horizon. Turning away towards the sea I was suddenly and deeply inspired by the subtle harmony of the scene before me. It was a moment of revelation to me, not that it was so beautiful, but that I had the burning desire to paint it. The icing on the cake came when, looking up, I noticed the moon's pale face watching me in my moment of joy.

Dune Light II
07 2007
Oil on Canvas
101 x 101cm
$6000

I took the composition of 'Dune Light' and enhanced the colours to see what effect this would have on a larger canvas.
