Lake Wakatipu
27.02.07
Oil on Canvas
37 x 20cm
$400

Hi Everyone,
last month I promised that everyone who signs up for my newsletters will be in the draw to win a work of art from me. True to my word, this newsletter's winner is... drumroll please... Julian and Josie Robertson!!! Congratulations you guys. The prize this time is their choice of either this painting on the right or 25% off any painting purchased through my gallery, including commissions. Good luck to everyone for the next draw in newsletter 12. Just so you know, I draw the winner by counting the number of people on my mailing list, then generating a random number at this website: http://www.random.org/nform.html and matching it to whoever is that number on my mailing list.

It's been a challenging 2 months for me since the last newsletter. I've been working hard on small studies to develop some ideas I've been exploring concerning tone, colour and paint application. Some larger paintings have grown from those studies and I'm considering these as studies too, but I guess all my paintings are studies of a sort.

I hope you enjoy these latest paintings..

Capsicums 1
17.02.07
Oil on Canvas
40 x 40cm
$500
The more expressive style in this painting is due to the inspiration I got from Vietnamese American artist Quang Ho. The painting took two days to complete.

Plum
26.02.07
Oil on Canvas
40 x 40cm
$500

Style exploration in a still life.

Reflections, Waipu Cove
22.03.07
Oil on Canvas
76 x 61cm
$2500
Not For Sale

Waipu Cove, for those of you who know it, may stir memories of barbeques and fish and chips, surfing smooth waves or strolling away the last hours of light. For me Waipu Cove always means having a good time , no matter what I'm doing there.

This painting is a reaction against the cooler colours in the previous painting of "Waipu Cove Reflections". I tried to warm the colours as much as possible.

Mangawhai Sandcastle
27.03.07
Oil on Canvas
102 x 51cm
$3000
There's nothing quite like building sandcastles with your kids, especially when you're trying to make a good one for a painting and they're trying to destroy it. As you can see I did manage to get it finished, only by sending them off to find shells for it. I confess the sandcastle was on Ruakaka Beach but I moved it with my paintbrush to Mangawhai in order to complete the idea I'd opened in a previous painting.

Thanks for your continued interest in my art.
If you have any comments or questions please email them to me at nzpainter@yahoo.com

Warmest Regards, and all the best for this new year.

Richard
