Aoki's Shave Ice store was opened in 1981 by Sumie and Michael Aoki and most days people are lined up outside waiting to buy some of their famous treats. Haleiwa Town is also home to a variety of restaurants, cafes and galleries and it is the gateway to the North Shore, surfing capital of the world.
As I stood there painting an 11x14" study of this spot last year I was only intending to paint the shop and the street but managaed to get my camera out in time to snap this classic Combi as it beetled out for an early morning surf. Aloha!
